Researching: REZAC, VAN LEWEN
I have a great interest in finding out history of my family name: Rezac. Where did the name originate. In what region? My name is Michael Rezac and I'm 29 years old. Born in Chicago, IL. My father's name is Thomas, and his father's name was Thomas as well. But My great grandmother gave my grandfather (Thomas) the last name of Rezac (her name was Van Lewan) because that was the last name of the man who fathered him although they we'ren't married. That's about all I know. Not very much, I guess. Just wondering if you might be able to point me in the right direction.

Researching: MARACEK, LEXA
I am trying to find a former acquaintance from Massachusetts whom I met during the 1960s while she was a student at Teachers College of Columbia University in New York and I was a student at The Juilliard School of Music. During my five years at Juilliard I was the assistant manager of a small residence hotel where I and many of my fellow students lived. The hotel was (and still is) owned by Teachers College. It was there that I met Miriam Maracek. She was in fact the first person of true Czech descent whom I had ever met. Because of my lifelong interest in Czech classical music it was then through Miriam that I first met Hanus (John) Lexa, then the director of the Czechoslovak Society of Arts and Sciences in America. I remember that, in the early 1970s, Miriam married a Czech native whom she had met in this country. Unfortunately, I do not now recall his name, although I had met him at least once. They had one duaghter within the following two years. Miriam's father was named Frantisek Maracek, who was living with his wife in retirement in Florida during the 1960s. Miriam told me that Frantisek had held a prominent government post under, if I recall correctly, Masaryk and had had to flee Czechoslovakia permanently in 1948. Miriam had one sibling, Bozna, (whom her American schoomates dubbed Bozo!). Possibly Bozna was born in Prague, although I am uncertain about this. I am interested to restore contact with Miriam Maracek because of some important music biographical studies of mine about which I am sure she would be interested to know. Any assistance offered that will reacquaint us will be gratefully appreciated.

This is to revise an earlier message posted 13 November 1997 at this site under the name of Wolfgang Vondracek. Did some more research and manage to trace the family back to 1834, the birth year of my great-grandfather as follows: Father, Herbert Vondracek, b. 01.05.1909, in Allendorf, Kreis Witzenhausen, Germany, d. 11.10.1982 in Celle, Lower Saxony, Germany, m. 02.10.1943 in Celle, to Ingeborg Vondracek, (Oetling); Grandfather, Stanislaus Vondracek, b. 24.01.1884, in Chlebov, Bohemia, d. 11.12.1930 in Westercelle, Kreis Celle, Germany, m. 16.01.1909 in Allendorf, Kreis, to Minna Vondracek (unknown maiden name); Great-grandfather, Josef Vondracek, b. 30.12.1834, in Choustnik, Bohemia, d. ?, m. to Antonia Vondracek (Schwab). If anyone out there who can link any of the aforementioned to his own family or knows anything about the Vondraceks from Choustnik, Bohemia, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Researching: MARTINEK, ALBERTOVA
I am trying to find out any information about my father's father, who left Czechoslovakia when my father was about 3 years old. This must have been around 1926. His name was Frantisek Martinek and he had been a Cavalry officer before marrying my grandmother, Masha Albertova. My grandmother's family were from Litice and later Zlin. My father believes that Franta immigrated to the southern states of USA and did remarry and possibly have further children. I would be very interested to hear from anyone who may have know of him.
