Researching: VACHA, WALKER, KROPA
I am searching for any information on Vacha. My great-grandfather is Anthony Walker. It is believed he came to the U.S. in 1880 (possibly 1881). He was born June 5, 1874 as was Anton Vacha. His parents are Frank Vacha and Anna Kropa. It is believed that Frank and Anna were from Pecciki. I am not sure of the spelling and I believe it may be near Temelinec. Apparently Frank immigrated in 1879 with his son John and Anna and the rest of the children came in 1880. The other children are Ann, Wenzel, Franz, Anton, Maria, and Karl. All these names have been changed to Anna, William, Frank, Anthony, Mary and Charles. Researching: KOHOUT, MEYER
I am researching the Kohout and Meyer lines from Bohemia. Joseph Kohout was born August 30, 1833 in Bohemia and married a Mary Meyer then settled in the Pittsburgh, Pa area (Allegheny City) when coming to the United States. Mary Meyer was born in Bohemia June 14, 1846 and is daugther of Joseph Meyer (born 1823, died July 18, 1876) and Mary Pauline (born June 15, 1824). Joseph Kohout and Mary Meyer were parents of a son, Joseph Kohout (born in Bohemia April 14, 1873), as well as other children that I am not sure of. Researching: HADINEK
Greetings from Down Under. We are the only Hadineks in Australia and we are very interested in researching the history of our family name. We know of a Sebastian Hadinek of Bohemia who moved to Upper Silesia in the early l800s. We know of a coat of arms with the name Hadinek, Prague 1825, but not much more. A Hadinek was said to have migrated to America and one died early this century in the U.S.A., we think without children. Has anyone any knowledge of the family Hadinek still in Bohemia? The castle Gorschuetz was mentioned by an older relative. Does that castle or estate still exist?

Researching: FANFRLIK, LEBEDA, SHONKA, KUNC, CEPURAN, CHAPURAN, BENDEKOVIC
Vaclav Fanfrlik born 1836 in Pribiste (near Caslav, Bohemia) and Barbara Lebeda born 1847 in Caslav were married in Caslav in 1867. They came to America in the mid 1870's and were founding members in 1877 of St. Wenceslaus Parish in Omaha. They had two sons and four daughters. Daughter Mary wed Joseph Shonka (from Abie, Nebraska (Butler County), daughter Anna married Joseph F. Kunc of Wilber, Nebraska (Saline County), daughter Josephine married Janko Cepuran (John Chapuran) of Omaha, and daughter Barbara wed John Bendekovic of Omaha. Vaclav and Barbara Lebeda had numerous grandchildren including Rev. Eduard Chapuran pastor of St. Wenceslaus from 1925 to 1952 and the several Shonka's who were on the faculty of St. Procopius College, Lisle, Illinois. I would welcome any information on the Fanfrlik or Lebeda families.

Researching: CHVOJKA, WASSERBAUER, TLUCEK, TOMCALA, BOHACOVA, DUZIKOVA, DUSIKA, DUSIK, NATSIS
I would appreciate hearing from anyone with regard to these unusual and uncommon names. My great-grandfather was Joseph Chvojka, born in West Germany (may have been part of original Austria or Bohemia) in 1852. He married Frances Wasserbauer and they emigrated to the USA via Baltimore from Schoenefeld, W. Germany. He was a weaver. The family traveled with 9 children and Joseph's mother, Josephine to Chicago and Gordon, Nebraska before settling in the Sublime/Bila Hora area of Lavaca, County, Texas in the early 1900's. Joseph's daughter Antonio Chvojka married my grandfather Franz (Frank) Tlucek. Antonio was about 15 years old when she and older & younger brothers and sisters came to America. It is my understanding that one daughter died before they left Europe and two of the sons may have been twins. Frank Tlucek was the son of Andre'(Andrew) Tlucek. Andrew was born 11/30/1850 in Dobre' Silesia, Austria. He was a bass horn musician and married Johanna Tomcala. They and their 5 children arrived in Galveston, Texas aboard the ship "Crenfeld" in November, 1897. My grandfather, Frank, was born in 1880 in Dobre' Silesia and married Antonio Chvojka in 1904 in Texas. They resided for many years in El Campo, Texas. I have recently aquired some letters from the 1950's & 60's from a deceased great-uncle, Henry Tlucek of Harlingen, Texas. These letters were written by Frantiska Bohacova, Terezie Duzikova (sent wedding pictures in 1966) and Jaroslava Dusika (Dusik). The letters were all from Frydek Mistek,p. Dobra, CSSR and I understand these were cousins to Henry & Frank Tlucek. Any help would be appreciated from Nancy Tlucek Natsis.

I am searching for information about Stephen Jirsik and his wife Mary Anna Baitek (Kabat). Stephen was born in Mistek, Austria on December 25, 1813 and died in Everest, Kansas on November 4, 1885. Mary Anna was born in Frydek, Austria on May 26, 1827 and died in Everest, Kansas on February 2, 1892. They are Buried at the Old Marak Town site. Mistek and Frydek are in Moravia located in present day Czech Republic. Stephen and Mary Anna came to the United States in 1857. Shortly after their arrival they apparently dropped the letter "J" from their last name and capitalized the "i" and spelled it as Irsik. Their descendants continue to spell the name as Irsik.

My name is Michelle Snider and I have recently started researching my maternal grandmother's family and need some help. Her grandparents were Carl Rendla and Marie Cipra. Carl was born in Nyran, Czechoslovakia in 1845 and Marie was born in Prague in 1855. They were married in Nyran in 1871. They had four children (Charles, Ralph, Frank, and Fred--my great grandfather) before they immigrated to the US in 1884. Fred was six months old at the time. They landed in Baltimore and headed for Ohio, then on to Nebraska two years later. They participated in the race for land that opened the Cherokee Strip in Oklahoma in 1893 and staked a 160 acre claim near Perry, Noble County, where some of the family remains today. Any help anyone could give me with regard to Carl and Marie and any family that might remain in Czechoslovakia today would be most appreciated.

Seek information on the Cyhlar (Cihlar) families who lived in the Mnich and Boretin towns of Pelhrimov, Bohemia during the period 1750 - 1860. I have good documentation on the progenitors and direct descendants of my g-g-g-grandfather, Gabriel Cyhlar (1751-1816, Mnich No.19 & Boretin No.1) and his wife, Maria Anna Hrebicek Cyhlar (1782-1851). However, nothing is known at this time about Gabriel's two brothers: Jan Cyhlar (b 22 Jun 1788, Mnich No.19) and Vaclav Cyhlar (b 26 Sep 1790, Mnich No.19). Did they die young? If not, did they marry and if so to whom? Did they have offspring who stayed in Bohemia or who might have emigrated to America? The sons of Jan and Vaclav are the only unknown Cihlars who might be related to me. They could also account for the occasional Cihlar contact who I have not believed to be related to me. My g-g-grandfather, Matous Cyhlar (Mathew Cihlar), (b 1821, Mnich No.18 - d 1885, Chicago), brought his wife and their family of eight children, all Mnich born, to Chicago in 1859. Coincidentally, does anyone know of Cihlars who still live in Bohemia or who emigrated to America from areas other than the towns of Mnich, Boretin, Destna? I am searching for information on the following individuals. Antonie Kepel is believed to have been born somewhere in Bohemia on June 11, 1899. It is believed his father's name was John Kepel. Charles Mahler was born around 1872 and immigrated to the United States where he set up residence in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. His wife, Frieda Strnad was born on September 13th, 1882. She also immigrated to the U.S. and lived in Milwaukee. I am also searching for information on Marie Vachuda, born 12-8-01, and William Vachuda, born in 1877. The last two individuals lived in the St. Louis, Missouri area after immigrating to the U.S. William Vachuda married Antonie Kepel, born June 11, 1899, somewhere in Bohemia. They had at least two daughters while still living in Europe (Helen and Marie Vachuda). Marie was born December 8, 1901 in Budevicich, Czech. It is believed that the family immigrated around 1908-1909. Also regarding Frieda Strnad, she was the daughter of Abraham Strnad and Anna Morowitz.

My name is Sue (Kahoun) Holberg. I have been researching the Kahoun name for about 22 years. I did have the Cechoslovak Republic help me do some searching many years ago. I have traced the Kahoun name back to Rejkovice, Bohemia.. Vaclav Kachaun had four children. One of his sons, Martin Kahaun. was born in Karhul, Bohemia on October 13, 1796. He married Barbora Zidek in Naceradec on November 22, 1824 and they had six children. One child was named Josef Kahaun and he is my great-great grandfather. I have tried to get information on how to learn the Slovak language so I can go to Naceradec and speak the language. But I have not had much luck. Karel Jerabek, a Roman Catholic, was born May, 1865 in Prague. His father was Frantisek Jerabek, and his mother was Maria Driski. Karel fled Bohemia in the 1890's. He claimed to have been in the Austrian Army, was at sea for two years and never went ashore until he jumped ship in NYC. We have no record of him until he married my Grandmother in 1897. Researching: SICKA, SIEKA, RIHANKA
Looking for information on my great, great, grandfather, Martin Sicka (Sieka) and Dorothy (Dorotha) Rihanka. Martin Sicka came to the United States from near Prague in Czechoslovakia. A farmer by occupation, he left his native land in the fall of 1851, arriving in New Orleans on January 5, 1852. He made his way up the Mississippi River where he made his home in St. Clair County, Illinois until 1865, when he went to Clinton County, Illinois. After fifteen years, he came to Kansas in 1880, spending his remaining days in Woodson County, Kansas until his death. Martin was born 1812, died 1894, buried in Piqua, Kansas. Martin's wife, Dorothy was born 1812, died November 13, 1873, buried in Germantown, Illinois. Martin and Dorothy had five children: Annie Sicka - (married Henry Albers or Albes); Mary Anna Sicka - (born 1836) married John Michael Spangler, later married a man with the last name of Goss; Blazius (Brazil)Sicka - not married; Barbara Sicka (born August 14, 1846, died August 4, 1913) married Samuel Just; Wenzel Sicka (born October 6, 1850; died January 28, 1924) buried in Piqua, Kansas.

Researching: NEDVED, CANEK
I am researching my mother's side of the family, who came from Czechoslovakia. It is the area of Bohemia and I have one source saying the city is Zkocova, but I still as of yet have been able to find any reference to this city or area or whatever it is. My grandfather, Charles Nedved, came to America in around 1901 with his parents, Josef and Barbora (CANEK) Nedved, and four brothers, Frank, John, Joseph and Anton. Josef was born April 17, 1860 and died Dec. 16, 1938. Barbora was born in 1868 and died in 1942. They were married on May 28, 1888. I am researching Josef Jiricek and Mariana Moravkova. They were married on 8.1.1870 in Horni Sloupnice. In May of 1871 they sailed from Bremen, Germany to New York. Researching: TAUTE
Researching Taute, my Great Grandfather. It said on his naturalization papers that he was born in Bohemia on or about the twenty-sixth day of February in 1865. He also claims his last allegiance before immigrating to the USA was to Francis Joseph I, Emperor of Austria Hungary. The clerk's writing, listing his place of birth, is unintelligible. I do know that it is six letters and the last four appear to be "—iven". Would appreciate help!

Vaclav Fanfrlik born 1836 in Pribiste (near Caslav, Bohemia) and Barbara Lebeda born 1847 in Caslav were married in Caslav in 1867. They came to America in the mid 1870's and were founding members in 1877 of St. Wenceslaus Parish in Omaha. They had two sons and four daughters. Daughter Mary wed Joseph Shonka (from Abie, Nebraska (Butler County), daughter Anna married Joseph F. Kunc of Wilber, Nebraska (Saline County), daughter Josephine married Janko Cepuran (John Chapuran) of Omaha, and daughter Barbara wed John Bendekovic of Omaha. Vaclav and Barbara Lebeda had numerous grandchildren including Rev. Eduard Chapuran pastor of St. Wenceslaus from 1925 to 1952 and the several Shonka's who were on the faculty of St. Procopius College, Lisle, Illinois. Seeking Pechal family link with Bohemia, Moravia maybe, Slovakia. Grandfather Pechal came to Texas at turn of the century, then after, went to Wisconsin, Minnesota and Connecticut, he settled in Swoyersville, Pennsylvania near Wilkes-Barre. They raised chickens for the Hotel Sterling in Wilkes-Barre and lived on a hillside that resembled Carpathian Mountains. I am aware of many Pechals in Texas area. He married grandma Michelak or Mihelak or Mikhelak. Grandma spoke about trips to Bratislava, Moravia and Carpathian Mountains. She was said to have been the daughter of wheat mill owners. Grandpa Pechal may have been tied in with some kind of inn in Moravia before coming to America. If you know of the Pechal family, please let me know.
