The 1831 Census of Koterbach is now available on line.
John Matthew Krispinsky, b:November 1, 1878 in Slovakia, is my wife, Marcella Krispin's grandfather. His father was John Krispinsky, who died before John Matthew came to the United States in 1899, and his mother was Anna Cvengros (the spelling on John Matthew's marriage certificate), who died about the time or soon after John Matthew was born. All of the people I have listed on this page were Roman Catholic.
John Matthew Krispinsky married Mary Virginia Zildusky, b: January 17, 1887 in Bohemia, January 23, 1906 in St. Louis. The family lived in Staunton, IL after 1908 and moved to Detroit, MI in 1927. The family name was changed to Krispin sometime after 1910. They had nine surviving children, three sons and six daughters. All four of the surviving children and most of the grandchildren are still living in the Detroit area.
Mary's parents were Matthew Zildusky, b: 1860 in Bohemia, and Joannae Subik, b: 1867 in Hungary. They were married about 1883. They came to the United States in 1890. They had five other daughters. Josephine, b: 1893 in St. Louis; Veronica, b: 1895 in St. Louis; Caroline, b: 1897 in St. Louis, Theresa b: 1898 in St. Louis and Agnes, b: September 12, 1905 in St. Louis. The family attended a Slovak RC Church in St. Louis.
After Anna's death, John married Anna Podrasky (or Podradky) (editors note: Podrasky is the common spelling) and they had three sons. Steven Krispinsky, b: July 3, 1883 in Koterbach, Joseph Frank Krispinsky, b: April 15, 1886 in Koterbach, and Mihael (Mike) Krispinsky, b:February 2, 1889 in Koterbach.
Steven came to the United States in 1900 and married Joanna Hiznay, b: August 21, 1887 in Koterbach, July 10, 1906 in St. Louis. She was the daughter of Michaelis Hiznay and Anna Uhrin. Steven and Joanna had three sons and remained in St. Louis.
Joseph came to the United States in 1903 and married Anna Mulicky, b:May 27, 1887 in St. Louis. They had one son and remained in St. Louis.
Mihael came to the United States in 1907 and married Mary Bugala, b: March 23, 1892. They had no children and remained in St. Louis.
This branch of the family changed their name to Krispin after 1920 and are found now in several states.
All four of John Krispinsky's sons were blacksmiths or blacksmith helpers when they came to the United States. Three, John Matthew, Stephen and Joseph later became tool and die makers in the auto industry.
